Would an engineer make more money in their own country (USA) or in a country like China/Brazil?

Would an engineer make more money in their own country (USA) or in a country like China/Brazil?
If it is a foreign country, please explain why this is so, and how a country with average human development can afford to pay an engineer so

USA Salaries are higher, and companies and governments can afford to pay professionals more
2 :
It is really based on supply and demand. If a country needs an engineer of a certain type, say civil, then the demand will translate into a higher salary. If the U.S. has a surplus of civil engineers, the salary will be low. However, there is a greater potential to make a lot of money in the U. S. But like everything else, it depends on the engineers qualifications and work history.

I would never have an abortion. Instead of having an abortion you need to use protection. Protect your self from diseases and from having another abortion. When can the people rightfully replace a government even forcibly?

When can the people rightfully replace a government even forcibly?
Governments existed long ago ruled by kings and supported by religion as the kings supposedly got their right to rule from GOD. That was the old view of things. Then came a notion called democracy...which first really came about in a serious and large way with the american revolution...it was the notion that human beings had certain inalienable rights..it was the notion that the country belonged to the people....that while a government ruled, it was only with the permission of the people as the govt itself existed to serve the people. The USA is a Republic which is a representative democracy, which means that the people have elected representatives that serve them and are supposed to run govt in a way that represents the will of the people. With democracy, govt exists only by permission of the people and that govt can be removed by the people when the people feel that it no longer represents them. In a small way, this is theoretically why we have elections, in a large way, it could mean revolution. The problem is that elections may be insignificant because the playing field and rules allow the minority to control who gets elected or influence the people's choices as to who to choose. So for example, if two candidates are running for President and each of them had to raise $100 million dollars to be able to run, you can see how money and those with money to donate to those campaigns influence the process. When elected offficials have to run for office again in 4 years or some years down the line, they use a good deal of their time in office and policy making opportunities to make sure they please those who will give them money to run for office again. This becomes at best a weakened version of democracy, and weakened version where even though the people vote, their choices are limited to people with lots of money to run for office..people who for obvious reasons have been given lots of money by people or corporations who want certain policies and are willing to pay heavily to get them. This is not democracy. This is not government serving or representing the people. This is what we have going on now in the USA. Using current events as an example, you will notice that the great majority of americans oppose illegal immigration and support the Arizona law, but yet our president opposes the great majority, that the great majority of americans were dissatisfied with health care reform and despise the mandate that everyone has to buy expensive health care insurance at extortion like prices from insurance companies, yet our President opposes the great majority, that the great majority of americans think outsourcing of jobs to China and other countries is a bad thing for citizens and the country, most americans oppose the building of the mosque near ground zero, yet our president gladly stands up and says that the mosque must be built....etc. You can see many examples where our leaders when making policy actually quite often make policy that the people had then voted on that policy would actually have voted overwhelmingly the opposite way. In theory the govt of the USA is supposed to serve the people...which means the will of the majority while respecting and preserving the rights of the minority against tyranny. But in fact, in reality, we see that this is not the case. So the question becomes, if we have elections and change does not occur and we keep getting more and more unrepresentative govt, do the people have a right to remove the governmental system in a big way and make a big revolution like change? Yes they do, because the country belongs to the people. Sadly though, the likelihood of pro the people change happening from within the system is very small as the very people who have the power to pass the laws and make the pro the people policies are the very corrupt politicians who are bought off by big money. Its even less likely that revolution can occur for the people to take back their country since the govt has so many advantages such as a vast modern military with all sorts of weapons that the people do not have....all sorts of money that the people do not have and all sorts of ability to spy on the people and monitor their activities. This is what we have come to in the USA...we no longer are that shining beacon of democracy, but rather are the shining example of plutocratic corporacracy...which is a form of tyranny, and the bad news is that the trend is that its getting worse with each year that goes by as the plutocrats gather more and more riches and get stronger and stronger while the vast majority of citizens are falling further and further behind and getting poorer and poorer.

I didn't read all that. Fact of the matter is, the U.S. Government is not doing anything so severe to where they need to be overthrown. We have a President for only 4 to 8 years. Then they must step down. This isn't a dictatorship. So what will we have if we overthrow them? The same exact people, and the same exact system. We will still hold elections, so things would still turn out the same.
2 :
I'm not reading all of that. A short answer is any time we want. We all have a duty to protect our freedom from ALL enemies, both foreign & DOMESTIC. Any government that is taking jabs at our essential liberties is in violation, and warrant removal. The problem is the school system, and media have convinced most Americans, that they no longer need to place any value on freedom. For the sake of "political correctness" we give up our rights. For the sake of safety, we give up freedom. The media has trained so many Americans to place their greatest value on multiculturalism. I can do this all day. Simply put, the Government has been a crossed the line for quite some time. It is up to the people to wake up, and push back.
3 :
I have too much of a life to read all that. Reading the Declaration of Independence is a good place to start finding your question's answer. When the government becomes treasonous to its people and ignores the petitions of the vast majority, and ceases to represent the people the way the people want to be represented, then a revolution is justified and required. We already see some of that today - the government ignored the majority's wills when they passed the health care bill, they promised to get us out of war, but they haven't yet - so they are essentially killing their own people over nothing, and the politicians in congress claim to represent as they pass bills behind closed doors. If they continue this for another 6 years(give or take a few, let obama and the other idiots of the government leave office,...), then a revolution must happen.
4 :
I don't have time to read that much in a question. But I think you're referring to our government being in the back pockets of the plutocrats, rather than being there for us, the constituents. Remember, we outnumber the plutocrats and should therefore use our numbers and sheer size while overseeing our government and politicians. But you're right: we are living under the tyranny of the wealthy these days.
5 :
When all other rights have failed — where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees.
6 :
We do have representative democracy, whoever makes the biggest contributions to politicians gets favorable legislation passed. You can join the Tea Party and overthrow the government if you dont like the health insurance mandate.

Why does the United States have to keep up trade with China?

Why does the United States have to keep up trade with China?
So we can't make China mad, because our money that we spend comes from the bank of china credit card. How are they helping us pay off our debt? Also, the china military is getting to become very powerful, so it seems like an economic necessity to keep trading with them. There is a mutually assured dependency, meaning they need us to buy their goods to be wealthy, and we know they will not bomb their biggest customer. i need details to back this point up. there is also the humanitarian aspect. to be able to help improve their human rights violations, we need to have a good connection with them. how have we already helped them improve? what are the positive benefits to the united states economy?

The way they help us pay for our debt is that the Chinese government buys a large number of US Treasury. When the government doesn't have enough money to pay for the budget it has three choices. 1. Raise taxes, which are unpopular with people, especially in an election year. 2. Print more money, but the congress doesn't have the power too. The Federal Reserve is actually in charge of that and they don't print more money to help pay for a budget deficit because it would lead to hyperinflation They are also independent from congress . 3. Borrow from the public by issuing bonds. They issue bonds by the US Treasury. Anybody can buy them, for example US citizens, companies, the Federal Reserve, or foreign government like China. When they purchase our bonds they are helping us finance our deficit. They give us money and we give them IOUs. But in recent months the Chinese government has started to purchase other government bonds in order to diversify there holdings, decreasing the number of US Treasury bonds they are buying.
2 :
The US keeps trading with the Chinese because we are hooked on CHEAP imported items. Unfortunately our greed and consumerism made this situation happen! If we had been willing to pay for items that allowed for our own to survive, we would be a stronger nation.
3 :
There was a government decision, made in the 60's i believe, to engage China economically because that would facilitate their move to limited capitalism, and would entwine their economic interests with ours. The alternate course would have been to eventually go to war with them.

Why do Americans have such a twisted, manipulated view of Socialism?

Why do Americans have such a twisted, manipulated view of Socialism?
I asked the question why Socialist countries are surveyed as the happiest in the world, and I got this response: "So you admit Obama is a Socialist and violating is Oath of office by changing the country? Anyhow, Denmark along with the Netherlands are a Democracy, and Constitutional Monarchy! Here is a CURRENT list of socialist countries and I'm sure they would argue with your uneducated question/statement. The People's Republic of China Cuba North Korea...you can't tell me those people are happy! Vietnam" Okay, This is what I find extremely strange? Because those countries are Communist. I live in Australia, which elected the Australian Labor Party which has it's official ideology is Democratic Socialism. Norway is under the Norwegian Labor Party which also has it's official ideology as Socialism. (It's also the second wealthiest country in the world, after Luxembourg) Spain, Norway, Denmark, The Netherlands, Italy, South Africa, Japan, Luxembourg are also under Socialist governments. Along with dozens of other Socialist governments. Communism and Socialism are related, But Communism is an extreme ideology that I don't approve of, and I don't think works at all. But whenever an American thinks of the world socialism, they think of some tyrannical authoratian rule? You can do whatever you want in Australia, you just have to pay higher taxes. I come from a middle/upper-class family, and I very much enjoy my life, I don't directly benefit from Socialism. (except from having better schools, hospitals, roads, healthcare, less income inequality, less poverty and less homeless people) I just believe it's ridiculous that people can make $45,000,000 a year sitting behind a desk in some corporation. Whilst some people don't even have a bed to sleep in. And im not saying people shouldnt be allowed to make $45,000,000. They should just be taxed far higher and that money should be distributed to those who have none. And Socialism doesnt make people lazy, Australias unemployment rate is half that of the USA. So you can't say Socialism makes people lazy and leech off welfare, it just helps close the gap between the extremely wealthy and the extremely poor. And, since almost every country is socialist now. There are very poor socialist countries (Venuzuela), and the two richest countries in the world are also socialist (Norway, Luxembourg). So I dont think it has much to do with overall wealth, more so of just how that wealth is distributed within that society. _____________________ The United States has one of the widest rich-poor gaps of any high-income nation today, and that gap continues to grow. In recent times, some prominent economists including Alan Greenspan have warned that the widening rich-poor gap in the U.S. population is a problem that could undermine and destabilize the country's economy and standard of living stating that "The income gap between the rich and the rest of the US population has become so wide, and is growing so fast, that it might eventually threaten the stability of democratic capitalism itself". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_of_living_in_the_United_States

While I certainly agree with most of your claims. I am not a wide socialist in that view. I don't like the wealthy upper classes being in command while the poorer classes suffer. But I don't like the government in all our private lives and that tends to happen in Socialism. Also I don't believe in giving money to people who are poor simply because they refuse to work. If someone say has been laid off and is actively seeking work then sure he can file for monetary help. But some socialist theology is everyone get wealthy and do no work. I firmly believe in work for what you get and have a strong work ethic while enjoying freedom from big government. Again many Socialist theology I agree with, I just don't believe in government everyone and giving out money to everyone even if they don't work for anything.
17 :
Socialism is an economic and/or social system. Communism/Democracy/Monarchy/Republic/etc. is a governmental system. Most of Europe is Socialist-Capitalist. Their economic drivers are Capitalist. Their Social systems are Socialist. The US is a Capitalist society with a Constitutional Republic as a government system. Different countries have different ways of doing things. Trying to compare a country like the US with say, France is ridiculous. The sheer difference in population diversity in the US, combined with the numbers of citizens is so vastly different. Not to mention the massive amounts of money we spend on things like defense that many of those other countries just don't have to. Tell me, what's Norway's Army been doing lately? Or Luxembourg's? Trying to compare the US with any other country is impossible. The best way to compare it would be to say, take all of Europe and add in North Africa and half of the Middle East. And then come up with a system of functioning. GO!
18 :
Well you've got to remember that the American public at large is rather ignorant, in the 50's and the 60's we had "better red then dead" slogans and we've been bred to see things in a certain way, unfortunately with the Red-neck right wing the minute you talk about "sharing" or "spreading the wealth" to help less fortunate of course! They will scrounge what they can from there voter base and attempt to stop anything that would help people in bad economic situations, and sadly enough its all older white men, but i digress, back to socialism, the system itself for socialism is quite effective if you look at other social countries such as you've noted, unfortunately most americans fail to see this and will cling to older beliefs in an attempt to stop any form of change, also i might add that people from the european (and in your case based from Britain) countries you've got more a lean toward what we americans would refer to as "liberal" and the "left" even the most "Conservative" from Britain and australia would be either leaning left or "liberal" in the US, we have this foolish voter base of ignorant Christians and Red-necks who want things to stay the way they are even when they are inherently broken! One thing id love to mention i show the right wing spouts "SOCIALISM!!!! OMG!!!" like its a plague or something, Obama is in-fact somewhat close to socialistic in ideology, but this IS NOT a bad thing!!!! most people just don't get it, as long as the government is regulated to within certain rights and taxes are a bit higher, does that truly matter if your supplied with health care? and people being helped by the government to have better lives? I understand the fears of "1984" which have been brought up in many circumstances, but this does not make it true, most the things we hear about in america when the media refers to countries with "socialized medicine" is bullshit that the Right wing happens to push.
19 :
Why do socialists demand access to everything and accept responsibility for nothing? You say that you are from a relatively wealthy stratum of society. Your words would be more impressive if you'd been born in a ghetto and become a successful professional. You are what people call a "champagne socialist." Tony Blair and Anthony Wedgwood Benn of the British Labour Party were too. If one has no fear of losing ones own security, one can afford to be magnanimous toward "the poor." Working people, who suffer from taxation, are acutely aware of neighbours who live off the dole. That is why conservatism is by no means limited to the upper classes, and that is why Margaret Thatcher was so successful. Lastly, socialism is closely identified with trade unionism - an institution that long ago had validity but today is no more than legalized extortion. In reality, Unions are corporations in the advocacy business and whatever gains they make for their members, they always make greater gains for themselves. Other than that, I think socialism is just peachy.
20 :
Socialism and its nastier sister Communism have never been successful anywhere. ONLY a Market based Economy-capitalism(where there's incentive to develop and take risks...) with limited government intervention such as the USA have been successful. The USA, contrary popular belief is NOT a Democracy, but is in fact a Constitutional Republic. Let's get back to the Constitution specifically, the 10th Amendment on clarity on how Obama and botox woman overstepped the amendment and created Tyranny of The Majority.
21 :
Hard facts about the EU vs USA http://www.timbro.se/bokhandel/pdf/9175665646.pdf The Sweden Myth http://mises.org/daily/2259 Those are the facts. “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.” Winston Churchill
22 :
As some others have pointed out, the USA has been a capitalist hegemony since the early 90's, and ceaseless anti-socialist propaganda has removed almost all traces of political openness from the public opinion. Your average american believes that capitalism is the only pure form of government economy, and associates socialism with communism and fascism.
23 :
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money. -- Margaret Thatcher It would be nice if you linked to your study, b/c its diff to know where your data comes from. But here is one study that says happiness is based upon, "Family, social and community networks that bring joy to one's life." (According to 2005 editorial, in the British Medical Journal authored by Dr. Tony Delamothe). http://www.forbes.com/2009/05/05/world-happiest-places-lifestyle-travel-world-happiest.html The other thing that makes this study suspect is that it was done by the UN. But in the US, there are about 1.2 million births every year to unwed mothers. That is a hard life, and I would like to know what it is in other countries. But I don't think the mothers of the 1.2 million per year would be really happy after a year of so.http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ofa/data-reports/congress/tanft51.htm So you can see there has been a breakdown in the family unit (due to liberal policies, like welfare, etc.). The gov encourages childbirth by paying for it. Perhaps those are the unhappy people? Also, with US unemployment over 10%, lots of unhappy people there too. As for socialism, the basic issue is who do you want in charge of your life, you or the government. "It is man versus the state, or: individual rights versus totalitarian government -- which means: capitalism versus socialism." Ayn Rand The Founders of the US & authors of the Constitution, feared centralized government because it takes the power away from the states, and once gone, is just about impossible to get back. George Washington said "Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force; like fire, a troublesome servant and a fearful master." That is a view many people share, and we are experiencing the truth of it today. Barry and the democrat party are governing by force. The majority of the people did not want the health-care bill, but they got it. We got central planning, and had a totalitarian solution. Socialism, at work from the US Congress. (There will be hell to pay this Nov when we have elections for congress.) "[T]he States can best govern our home concerns and the general government our foreign ones. I wish, therefore...never to see all offices transferred to Washington, where, further withdrawn from the eyes of the people, they may more secretly be bought and sold at market." -- Thomas Jefferson, author of Declaration of Independence, our founding document. If you are happy that is good. We should all be free to choose how we live, and the maximum amount of freedom to do that is capitalism.
24 :
One of your own -- Rupert bloody Murdoch -- has about 99% to do with this. There's a lot of right wing lies and propaganda passing for news. People are deliberately misinformed.
25 :
The answer is simple. The political right in America needs to ADMIT there is a problem with wealth distribution in America. Like a drug addict or an alcoholic, they need to ADMIT that the market, when left alone, does EXACTLY what Karl Marx said it would. It creates monopoly power in just a few. Once admitted, the solution needs to be something other than social transfer payments. They need to influence the market to distribute fairly. One way would be to give tax incentives to companies to pay DOMESTIC employees more, and stop OUTSOURCING. There are other ways. But will our democracy ever get this right? Friends, after what we've seen over the last decade, I think the answer is clear. No way.

What do you think about my idea of having TV in theaters?

What do you think about my idea of having TV in theaters?
They should totally have TV shows in theaters, don't you think? I'm not saying they shouldn't have them on TV, but I'm saying they should also have them in theaters. I got the idea from a dream I had last night, where they made a new Babylon 5 movie, and it was in theaters. So I got the idea, what if they released TV shows episodes in theaters? I for one would love to see Babylon 5 in theaters, plus, I wouldn't mind seeing a few other TV series' in theaters either. They could like play 2 or 3 episodes back to back and that costs like $5 to see on the big screen (since 1 episode of a TV show, especially if it's only a 30 minute TV show instead of an hour) would kind of be a rip-off if they charge full admission price as if it were a movie. Then a week or two after playing episodes 1-3, they play episodes 4-6, so on and so fourth. Wouldn't that be great? Watch, some guy who owns a theater will see this and take my idea and not give me credit, I just know it, but I probably wouldn't make too much of a fuss (except maybe about the part about how he/she didn't give me credit), since I'd be glad that someone took my idea into action. This is perhaps the greatest idea since my new space exploration related message board, Above and Beyond (ask me for the link if you want it; you can ask me in this topic, or via PM, either one). I think it's a fantastic idea (well obviously, since I came up with it). Everyone wins, the consumer gets to see an entire series of their favorite shows on the big screen. The movie theater owners get more customers. I get to be famous (not that I really care about fame, I just want to help people), and TV show companies get more money. Now, you might think to yourself, 'why not just watch them on TV, or Hulu, or Phoenix (which I created by the way), or the Internet for free?' Well, most people watch movies in the theater for the atmosphere, I mean sure, you could pirate something (thought I don't recommend it, since it is usually, though not always, illegal; I do not believe that it is illegal in the Russian Federation or the People's Republic of China, but I might be mistaken) or watch it on Hulu or Phoenix, but it's not the same as being in a theater. Plus, if you have a date, then you have even a more exceptional time. Of course, they could just charge like $2.00 for you to see 1 episode (after all, theater companies make most of their money off of concessions anyway), instead of $5.00 for 3 episodes (which is cheaper in the long run, but not everyone wants to watch 3 episodes of something in a row). They could also have intermissions (breaks/pauses) in between the episodes if they do 3 episodes in a row. Of course, a week or two after a episode (or 3 episode pack), they would move on to the next episode (or 3 episodes), and continue to do so until every single episode has been aired. Then they can repeat the series, play movies that are based on the series (if there are any), or move on to a different TV series. Well, thank you all very much for hearing me out. I do hope that someday (someday soon if I'm lucky), my idea will become a reality. Do you think my idea is a good idea? Kevin McDonald December 14, 2009

i think it is a great idea - but it would work better with some formats than others. i could see it working for drama shows. i would love to see twin peaks or dexter in the theatre. but for example in england the x factor final just pulled 17m viewers (About a quarter of the uk population) - but i think this is the kind of thing people like to watch with their families, as it transcends the age gap. to be honest, i'm more interested in your space exploration idea though. could you send me the link? have you ever wondered, on really cold planets like uranus and neptune, whether life couldn't exist inside the planet, underground, as it were, close to the warm, molten core, where the temperature could support water too...?

I thought that maybe knowledgeable business people in the US may have more insight. Other than through transaction fees and financial products, how can an up and starting department in the futures index make money?

By having traders that trade with the firms money leveraged, actually making gross profit on trades they make themselves, whether it be intraday traders or ones that buy and hold for a longer period of time. Portfolio management can also be profitable, profits coming from different types of commission as well as fees. I hope this helps, good luck.
