Ok, so we send China our manufacturing and our jobs, make them money & now they R trying to kill the $$$$?
now they are trying to convince the world that because the USA is in decline and is not the great economic power it once was that the world should stop using the dollar as the major currency for trade? ROFL

Why not, once the dollar is de-based China will be the strong hold in the world. They can then start to invest into their own domestic economy and become the US of the 1900's. They do not want the dollar to crash yet. The must redeem their value by buying up US assets and property here first before those dollars are worthless. This will ultimately lead to a delcine in supplies in the US with and increase of supplies of dollars which = hyperinflation!
2 :
You try to blame China for the results of the policies of our current political regime and our socialist controlled congress. Why shouldn't our rivals and enemies take advantage of the stupidity of our nation and its elected fools? If we don't clean house and senate in 2010 we will be in really deep trouble by 2012.

China doesn't have to "undermine" or "kill" the U.S. $$$$. The United States Treasury Department is now printing money as fast as China.

You better watch out for customs. They will seize it if it is illegal and you will lose all your money on that shipment. You can go to abibab.com to find a list of Chinese wholesalers

How the U.S can make China crumble without going to war!!?

How the U.S can make China crumble without going to war!!?
I am just seeing what everyone's opinions are... I personally believe that all America needs to do to make China fall apart is, have the Government build factories, tons of factories to manufacture EVERYTHING we buy from China... We build the factories and the tools needed to make the items, we sell them to companies. We give Company CEO's a 3month notice that we are going to put tarrif's on ALL of China's imports... Make it more expensive to buy Chinese goods then American goods... Boom, China no longer is making money, they will collapse in a year or two IMO... What do yall think? Just kind of thought of it while sitting here...

Close down walmart for a week.
2 :
China has kept its foreign exchange rate artificially low for too long. We need tariffs to compensate for this. Although this will make goods in America more expensive (loss of cheap imports), it will help Americans get jobs back.
3 :
quit buying all that crap made in china
4 :
Stop trading with China and start importing from other nations China will fall faster then hallmark cards
5 :
keep out the lobbyists and stop the bribes
6 :
wouldnt happen no body in the states wants to do the jobs that the chinese are doing thus the chinese get the money for doing them. where as the chinese economy slowly builds from the ground up, the american economy is getting its bottom jinja peices pulled out by its self. at this point in time its allready over
7 :
Well, we will have to secure our debt owed 1st. And try to avoid additional stimulus packages (they are high interest loans taken from China). Considering the UN is using US birth certificates and National Parks as collateral towards the debt owed to China...I think they pretty much have us crumbling to our knees at the moment...our dollar is pretty much worthless anyways. But I see where you could see that.
8 :
Have the CIA infiltrate, and establish Labor Unions, so their manufacturing sector can be ruined too.
9 :
Im all for it, better to deal with China sooner than later. Can almost guarantee that we will have to deal with them though.
10 :
do more business with india, support taiwan with more weapons, impose trade embargos on vital chinese made products ,sign more free trade agreements for items made in china to other countries like mexico, canada even latun america..compete with china on an international level ie steal its alliances.............you get the drift, eventually it will be war....and totally have our warships docked in japan with nuclear weapons and war games in the sea of japan
11 :
ban trading with them.
12 :
this is my idea you can kill to birds with one stone as they say by stopping companies from sending their factories to china that will hurt their economy and send them to mexico and then eliminate are immigration problem
13 :
I don't want China to collapse.
14 :
The only problem with that is that too many Wal-Mart employees will be out of work. Then Wal-Mart will be crying for a bail-out and the tariffs will be lifted. Of course the economic damage to China will have taken effect and we will send them money. We destroyed Japan and rebuilt them. Look where it got us.
15 :
i dnt think anyone can help china personally cause its been that way so long there not just going to give in like and old leg! so i doubt they gonna change!
16 :
China is not the problem, Americans are the problem! Americans refuse to buy American made goods, they prefer to buy the cheaper foreign made goods. By not supporting US products that money goes to other Nations overseas, which are followed by US jobs. Then Americans complain about U.S. Job loss. Go down to a busy street corner and count all the foreign cars on our roads, That is where our Auto industry went. Even if you buy a Japanese car made in the U.S. the profits of that company goes to aid the Japanese economy, not the US economy ! If you are driving a foreign car, you are part of the reason for the meltdown ! Edit: For those who answers seem to indicate the use of military force, read up on the Korean War where a 10th rate Chinese Guerrilla Peoples Army fought the US and UN forces to a Stalemate.

How can i make $8000 in 2 years to go to china?
Right after I get out of high school I'm planning to go traveling and one of the places I plan to go is China to study Kung Fu and the tuition for a year there is $8000. I'm getting a part-time job but i doubt i will make $8000 with it in 2 years. So what are some ways i can make good money to go to this school? Or are there any kind of scholarships or anything that would help me reduce the price?

I would imagine that you could earn $4000/year, even at a part time job. Ask whoever's paying you. In the meantime, I doubt there are any scholarships to a Kung Fu place in China. I don't know for sure, but good luck.

You can directly contact with Shaolin Temple which is the most famous place to learn real Kungfu. I have been travelling there and I also saw several foreigners learning.

When I buy products Made in China, am I helping an oppressive communist govt make money??

When I buy products Made in China, am I helping an oppressive communist govt make money??
Isn't it true that when I try to come out cheap by buying Chinese made stuff, it will end up costing me more, because the Chinese stuff breaks within a couple of years so then I have to buy a new one? Isn't it also true that while I'm trying to save a few bucks buying Chinese stuff, it ends up costing me more at the pump, because when I support Chinese products, it creates wealth there, which in turn leads more people to buy cars there, which in turn leads China to buy up more gas, which then leads to higher gas prices? So then, why would I be so stupid and buy Chinese made stuff?

Yes, yes and yes. It is amazing how blissfully unaware America has become regarding the products made by Communist China. I grew up during the Cold War and the US didn't do business deals with communists...until that is....Nixon opened up trade with them.
2 :
yes it does. however, Chinese products are everywhere here in America. so if you really want to avoid that stuff really research the products that you have.
3 :
Actually, you're helping an oppressive business owner make money.
4 :
China People are in the rigth way, they came from Comunist rule to an open market/ free market and entrepenuars China and India are in this rigth way, so they produce very cheap................... other countrys , because state regulation : Welfare and Warfare, are in the wrong direction................... International trade , give international Wealth For example : if you buy cheeap, your safe are going to another product, and another pocket................ For example : China get more dollars, they change dollar and they buy treasury bonus US Open markets are good for everyone
5 :
Well, we are all guilty of growing the economy of a potential rival for global resources. We are already feeling this in the oil, and metals markets. This will only worsen as more and more manufacturing finds its way to China and the US loses some of its purchase volume leverage for these commodities. And as China's wealth grows, it continues to build up what will eventually be the dominant Asian Navy, which will ultimately challenge US Naval Power in that region of the globe. A powerful Chinese Navy is critical to any plans China may have for securing Taiwan. There are consequences for our actions folks. Everytime we put profit margin ahead of patriotism, we put our nation at risk. And think back to 1930's Japan...as we sold them millions of scrap metal that found its way back to us.... Falling prices might not be the only thing that falls as a result of this relationship...
6 :
Yes. Yes you are. And if you didn't notice, you're making Al Gore rich too! And yes, we are competing with them. And yes, there is a trade imbalance which cheapens the dollar and raises the price of oil because they are using a lot of oil there too.
7 :
isuppose you could buy goods made in pakistan and endorse chlid slavery or viet nam or mexico. who else produces anything?
8 :
yes, but if you decide not to buy chinese goods, you will be letting U.S. businesses not be competitive. If you decide to not buy a product purely because it's froma country you don't like, then you'll let American companies get away with not competing in the global marketplace. This just ends up being a problem because when it comes to competition, America must be able to handle competition. Also, China might be evil and be communist but they are steadily reaching to a point where they are open to the Idea of Westernized type society. If we choose to derail that sort of growth by choosing not to trade with them, they will revert to an maoist government that could actually be a threat to its neighbors and the West.
9 :
I don't buy "made in China" junk. Why do you? They are using American dollars to build more weaponry. America!!!!! What has happened to you? You have never been smart but now, wow, you are so dumb!

Actually China is paying off some money owed to the fed so the government does not reach it borrowing limit. This in no way impacts trade with China as of yet, however it does mean that china is one of the USA's creditors which is a precarious position to be in.
3 :
the way i think is they make the money why not just make enough to make us a rich country and forget the money we owe if we make it why not just make a lot of it.....

So when has the US government ever done anything sensible in the last 100 years? We are talking government here not Bill Gates or Donald Trump or Wallstreet. If a business like Microsoft ran their business like the US govt. runs theirs, they'd be broke, bankrupt in half no time! They'd be murdered in the open market. But then Microsoft actually has to do something for a living. The govt. just steals the money from the taxpayers, so the Feds just don't give a poop what they do with YOUR money. Microsoft or Sony has to spend or invest THEIR OWN. If their products or services don't sell, then they don't make money. The govt. is a racket just like the Mafia. They've got the citizen by the balls in a vice grip. You complain about their abuse of your rights or the senseless waste of your money and the vice gets tighter. Soon you'll learn to be a good citizen and shut the hell up. Despite the fact that the citizenry created their government, they don't own it, or control it. The government OWNS and CONTROLS them. How did the freest nation on Earth become Big Fat Brother Juggernaut that crushes all that get in its way? You wanted to be safe and secure and babied and pampered...You were afraid and you refused to take control of your own lives and so let the "authorities" do if for you. You were afraid, you wanted to be secure and safe and for Momma to take care of baby who cannot think for herself and change her bloody diapers. You wanted Big Brother so you got it. Now that Big Brother owns you lock stock and barrel, it's a bit late to do something about it. A representative Democracy or Republic isn't one bit different from a Dictatorship if the representatives are not answerable to and easily removed by the people! You've got an Oligarchy, a Plutocracy in the USA. It's not a Democracy, nor a Republic as J.J. Rousseau described one.

As long as we have a capitalist system, you are correct.
2 :
there is no incentive to build anything here, too many taxes and burdens (like the new healthcare crap) on businesses, the ones that stay are the ones that are being carried by tax shelters and special deals, or the small ones that don't make enough to be forced out yet.
3 :
Why does GM assemble cars in Mexico?
4 :
Cheap labor = more profit? Right economics is that simple.
5 :
You can watch it all happen from skid row in Tennessee. As you said, nobody gives a d@mn about you, and never will. It almost makes you wish you were born Chinese.
6 :
Just because we have to give into you, doesn't mean we have to give into EVERY business person in every facet of economics. You guys act like everything is a race to the bottom so everyone but the rich will have to be poor in order to make a profit. That is a dangerous way top radicalize the electorate and endanger your future tax rates my friend.
7 :
You're obviously not the CEO of anything, or else you would realize that it is not the cheap labor that makes companies the money when they go overseas or hire illegals. It is the savings on benefits (which cost a LOT more than the labor does). As a conservative my response to this would be, let any company that wants to go to China, Mexico, Canada, or wherever go. But, if/when they do, then they lose the tax breaks that they would get as an American company, and their product is subject to high tariffs when it comes to the states.
8 :
absolutely. why not do that then? move on over there, and give the chinese government most of your profits, you do like socialism, right? don't let the door slam on your way out, con.
9 :
A lot of American CEOs did business with Hitler, and Stalin too without any feeling of moral obligation to their nation, their fellow countrymen or the ideals of liberty. Many CEOs should make a point to enjoy their money to the fullest extent during their lifetimes. Satan doesn't take American Express.

Why did Obama have to borrow China's money, can't we just print our own money and use it?
Why do we have to borrow? Why couldn't Obama just have the department of treasury or whoever makes our money, make a bunch more? I know this is a very stupid question, but I am completely stupid when it comes to politics and economics; thats why i did not vote. Please explain to me.

Inflation gets worse every year. It's certain. We don't want to make it any worse.
2 :
Obama has effectively done what i like to call "Biting". Now it's a question of whether or not Obama has bitten down on a lure or a piece of meat.
3 :
That would cause inflation to skyrocket. If you don't like paying 4 dollars for a gallon of gas now, just wait another year and see where it is at.
4 :
Inflation makes money worth less. Pretty soon Quarters will be worth as much as penny's and at mcdonalds there will be a 100$ menu instead of a dollar menu.
5 :
Well, im no expert, but when i asked that question like last week my dad explained to me that the more money printed by the country, the less value it has. If Obama just has the American Treasury print off the billions of dollars for which the country is in deficit, the money would be worth next to nothing in the global market.
6 :
That's not how economics work.
7 :
Paper money is backed by gold. Sure the Treasury can print more money, but it wouldn't be worth anything. Like the Peso. China has been "bankrolling" the US for a long time. If China cuts off the money, down goes the US.
8 :
when you print off more money then it loses its value so you might have to pay 20k for a loaf of bread. because the moneys almost worthless. after ww1 Germany did that and because it became worthless people used it as confetti on new years.
9 :
He is printing it because nobody wants to float the loan. Printing the money means inflation, especially when the fed won't raise interest rates to keep inflation in check.
10 :
When you make more money it loses its value. In simple terms if you have a one of a kind baseball card it is worth a lot, but if you were to discover 100 one of a kind cards it would be worth less. Same with money.
11 :
Money represents a portion of physical wealth or resources - if you print more then you make each dollar worth less. If there are 100 dollar bills in the world, then each dollar is worth 1/100th of the total wealth of the US. If there are 1000, then each is worth 1/1000th of the total wealth. Wealth is this case being physical resources like corn, steel, oil, gold, computers, and cars. Since printing money does nothing to increase actual physical resources, then it does no good except to cause massive inflation. What China did was offer the US a portion on their wealth in exchange for interest later on. EDIT: Paper money is NOT backed by gold, it is backed by a country's fiat, reputation, and GDP.
12 :
Neither our president nor congress prints money. The Federal Reserve was created to issue currency to prevent political swaying. Anything the U.S. government does, it issues debt in the form of bonds. The major buyer of these bonds IS the Federal Reserve, but other times it can be foreign countries or even our own citizens. Unfortunately, Americans do not save and are unable to offer up any money. Japan and China are the FOREIGN largest buyers of our debt, but this is due, in part, to us having a huge trade imbalance. Right now our trade deficit with China has reach unprecendented levels. What happens is we use US money to buy goods from China.. China then takes these US dollars and reinvests them into the US by buying bonds or investing privately. Economists who say that deficits don't matter (me NOT being one of them) say that since the money will inevitably end up reinvested back into America, there is no concern for trade deficits. So when Obama says, "Hey.. will you buy this debt bond from the US government" China thinks, "I really have no other choice do I? I have to invest these US dollars somewhere". So China has us by the balls.. we have China by the balls. The only way they can get out out this mess is to let their currency value float and let the yuan achieve its true value. By devaluing their currency to grow at unprecedented levels, China has only made themselves a patsy.
13 :
When we were on the Gold Standard (the way I remember it): If there was 1 trillion dollars in gold backed currency in the US, and that is all of the currency that was out there every dollar would be worth a dollar. The way we work since getting off the Gold Standard: If there was 1 trillion dollars in gold backed currency in the US, but someone printed another 1 trillion in paper money (without gold backing it up) then all of the currency that was out there would only be worth 1/2 as much or a dollar was worth $0.50. I think a dollar is worth MUCH less than a dollar at the moment and Obama did not help yesterday either.
14 :
same reason Bush borrowed a trillion to throw into the Iraq rathole. Its not at all a stupid question, and so far, I have not seen one reasonable answer! OK Here is the correct answer: We have a huge trade deficit with most of our trading partners. You buy a toaster made in China and pay for it in US dollars. The Chinese company takes the dollars home, but they can't pay their workers or buy food or 'stuff' with US dollars, so they go to their central bank and say "Mr Central Banker: please give me Yuan for these US dollars", and the Chinese central bank "prints" money, from nothing, and gives it to the company. The Chinese Central bank, sometimes using "Sovereign Wealth Funds", take some of these US dollars and buy US Treasury bonds with them. They are not "new" credit, its old credit that our central bank printed from nothing. The second thing you need to know is the monetary system in the USA is debt backed. Whenever NEW credit is created, it is associated with a debt instrument, more US government treasury bonds. Creation of new money, faster than our rate of growth, causes, eventually, inflation. So, both things are happening: the Federal Reserve does create new money, from nothing, and pump it into the banking system. Each time they do this, they sell treasury bonds. Its called an "elastic" monetary system, since the Fed can buy treasuries to create money, and sell treasuries to reduce the money supply. The bad thing is that, for every dollar of credit in existence since 1913, teh US taxpayers must pay interest on those bonds forever. The US treasury never retires debt, they just keep rolling it over. Its the single largest shell game, and mechanism of transfer of wealth created in world history. The US Treasury also prints even more treasury bonds, and gets the Chinese to loan us our money back again, and pay them interest, forever, since the Treasury never retires any debt. Our two biggest problems are: 1) the US trade deficit, that allows US dollars to pile up in foreign central banks (China, Japan, Europe, the oil countries), and 2) our debt backed monetary system. Neither are fixable, we have to wait until they collapse, which they will eventually. Just look at the graph of the increase of the national debt. Its exponentially increasing. Any third rate "C" engineering student will tell you that nothing can increase exponentially very long. As an aside, someone below said something like "Obama's printing money like mad...". The presidentt has no, absolutely no control over the monetary system. Its a little group of private bankers that operate in secret and do whatever they want to benefit themselves that controls the money suppply. Its the Federal Reserve system itself that is broken. Once you realize that, then you will start to understand why the money suppply increase at double digit rates even when the country is contracting. Its the mechanism of wealth transfer.
15 :
Oh, believe me he's printing money like it's going out of style. But not only are we going to have to pay for it, but so are our children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren, in higher and higher taxes! Please, before the next election, get educated, get registered, and vote, it's you right as a citizen! That is until Obama and his regime take it away!

China is a name that men give to a chunk (albeit a very big chunk) of the earth's surface. The air and water anywhere on the planet eventually comingles with other air and water. Rivers and streams in China make their way to the ocean, just like in other countries. SO basically, China's air and water is our air and water. China is not a stand-alone environment.
2 :
Think of it like smoking on an airplane. One person smokes and since it's a sealed system, everybody feels the effects. The earth is like that. It's all the same air and water tables eventually run to the oceans and it's all just one great big sealed system. Hope that helps. --Dennis
3 :
Because you breathe. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that on certain days nearly 25 percent of the particulate matter in the skies above Los Angeles can be traced to China. Some experts predict China could one day account for a third of all California's air pollution.
4 :
It's like we are all living in a big fish bowl. just because they dump the yuk in the water over there, doesn't mean it won't get to us. Also, there are only a few people at the top getting the money from the products, most of the people in China are living in poverty.
5 :
Pollution crosses borders. China is a major emitter of global warming gasses.
6 :
We should care about every where. China is not the only country who pollutes. America is the #1 contributor to global warming. We should care about everywhere. Don't point the blame on one country us american create the most pollution. think about it the way we live and the way we've been living compared to the rest of the world.
7 :
China is cleaning up its act, but you should realize that China is still incredibly poor. Shanghai and Beijing may give you an impression that everything is all shiny and all, but China still pollutes a great deal because they tend to use coal, the dirtiest fossil fuel, but also the cheapest. China's population is growing and with that, more pollution and use of fossil fuels. That goes to global warming, which affects everyone, even Americans. However, American is still the number one polluter.

Actually. It is flabbergastingly big. What would cost 3$ (just saying any amount) to manufacture in the US. It would cost 0.30 to produce abroad. Now all you need is to multiply each one times a million and compare. (what would cost you 3 million to produce here could cost you only 300 thousand. Your savings are 2.7 Million) Just look at the salary comparison. some countries go as low 7.00$ A MONTH. Its sad but most of the Enterprises (big companies) produce abroad to cut costs. It's sad but its true............
2 :
You are not saving anything. In fact it is costing you. How many factories and factory workers are now on the unemployment line because Wall Mart wants to sell things cheaper. And the real cause of the problem is that we want to buy things cheaper. The truth is that they are simply cheaper things. Buy things with the Made In America tag on them, or don't buy the product. You may pay a little more, but it will help your own economy. Read what Abraham Lincoln's response was when someone asked him if they should buy the less expensive English railroad ties, or the higher priced domestic ones. Some things are no longer made here. TVs and other commodity items. But read the label on everything and buy a domestic shirt, shoes, car, boat, food, dishes, etc....... Cheers.
3 :
most of the last few years' increases in US productivity are due to foreign trade -- they sell us what is cheap to produce there and we sell them things like airplanes. So, the current value of that is around 10% of the total US economy or 1.3 trillion per year saved. [one percent per year for 9 years] Your share then would be 1/10th of your pre-tax total income.

No they don't make all the same -- you can look at there gdp per capita and that is about as close as you will get -- but they have poor middle class and a super rich class so it is skewed, but it skewed in every country too but some more then others and china is probably on the high end of the skew

Does anyone else see this as a ploy to cheat China out of a bunch of money that the US has borrowed? Making there money inflate, to where it is 4 to 1 vs. 6.8 to 1 would not be in Chinas interest. So why are US politicians claiming it would be good for China?

They're going to have to cheat China out of some of the money owed, same as they'll have to cheat everyone else money is owed to. Money was and is being spent so far beyond our potential for repaying it there won't be any alternative. A dollar has value in relation to some product produced in the US. All our production has gone elsewhere. They're even including insurance sales in the gross national product to create the illusion we're producing something besides raw materials. China bought a huge portion of the US National debt and a larger portion of the trade deficit. Bad cess. They're usually smarter than that.
2 :
If they don't re-value their currency to float instead of being pegged to the USD and yet continue to own so much American debt, our debt will cost us more in interest payments and will just balloon forever. I don't know about finance but that looks like our economy can be controlled by China.

How can I make good money on Ebay?

How can I make good money on Ebay?
I am currently on maternity leave and I would like to stay at home with my baby. I sold a few items on Ebay, but I only made about $600.00 in 3 months. I heard that we can buy wholesale from China or other places , but I do not know from where. If you have any good ideas on how to make money on Ebay. PLEASE let me know. THANKS

its very difficult. you need a ton of money up front. shipping cost are hugh. you just need to plan out things
2 :
I had the same issue when we only had 2 kids. Working wasn't paying me enough when all my pay went to day care, so I got into eBay 10yrs ago for the same reason, so I could stay home. It has been worth it! You can start with stuff you would put in your own yard sale, as well as getting stuff at yard sales and flea markets. That is how we started out on eBay. It grew from there. We buy from wholesale dealer auctions. You may have to find out where there might be some in your area and you'll need a tax ID for that. You can buy some stuff wholesale online and have it delivered to your door and then sell it on eBay. We have done that too. One good online wholesaler is BlueSkyImports.com. We have bought from them several times. There are many other wholesalers online. Just do a little comparison shopping for the best deals. Good luck!
3 :
And if you buy wholesale, be prepared to invest a lot of money. The bigger the order, the cheaper the price. You also will need a storage facility to store all of those items. No seller will tell you their secrets, but start with things you have around the house. Do your research and go from there.
4 :
hii, check this site http://wholesale-directory.co.nr/ , they have a lot of wholesaler lists who offer a huge collection of products for really good prices, this site also made a comparison of the price difference between them and e-bay and how much you can make by reselling these products ,also this site has one of the best drop-shipping systems ever.well go there and see for yourself, hope it help.

How Many Of You Americans Here On Yahoo Make More Money In 1 Month Than Most Chinese People Make In 1 Year?

How Many Of You Americans Here On Yahoo Make More Money In 1 Month Than Most Chinese People Make In 1 Year?
I read that the average worker in China only makes the equivalent of three thousand seven hundred dollars a year. $3,700 a year.

I would qualify for that.
2 :
Mmm...not one month, but two. No wonder all the crap from China is so inexpensive. Their factory workers are practically slaves.
3 :
me. But my cost of living is higher.
4 :
I don't
5 :
I do but I'll also bet that my bills are much higher. It's all relative.
6 :
Yeah but how much money do you need when the most desired possession is 6 square feet of personal space?
7 :
Most of the world makes more than that. so what.
8 :
5 times. Yeah we should definately emulate the Chinese.
9 :
lol, month.

And the Saudi Arabians makes the average middle class american citizen look like beggars. Now is that the Saudis fault? Neither should the Americans have to have a justifiable answer as to how China treats their own citizens. If they want them to live on poverty row, that is China's business.

... Now that the Republicans have taken over the House, we'll all be working for those wages soon.
12 :
Yes, America has one of the highest standards of living in the world. Your point? China isnt even the worst. They are lucky they are even being payed. Many industrial nations use slave labor and children in their factories. How do you think America gets such cheap products? In fact, there is a 98% chance the very clothes you are wearing right now were made by slaves. There are more slaves today than there have ever been in the entire history of the human race. That is a little-known fact.
13 :
That is just about what I make.
14 :
My family {My father, Mother, and two Sisters} makes about 20,000 dollars a year in the U.S., and we do not have a lot of money. Our cost of living is much higher here. A person may be able to get by on 3,700 a year in China, if you're telling the truth, as you have no source to back up this statement. Also, guess who's exploiting those factory workers. American Corporations. You know, the same ones that shipped the jobs away and made us as poor as we are now, because the workers had enough "nerve" to ask for decent pay so they wouldn't be exploited like the Chinese, who themselves are asking for better pay now. Maybe that's why you see "made in Indonesia" so frequently now a days.

What's the best way to make money selling your original paintings?

What's the best way to make money selling your original paintings?
I've done some paintings, and I've been thinking how should I make the best out of my work? E-bay sounds easy, but there are so many cheap works from China and stuff, that I feel I won't get my money back. I usually put at least couple days working on a painting, with so much attention to detail, hours and hours...but I feel I can't compete with these guys who sell their stuff for 30 bucks on e-bay. Please advise me!!!!

Get your art displayed in a legitimate art gallery.
2 :
Try Amazon. Don't be afraid to list your asking price higher than china products. If your work is that good, its worth the dollar.
3 :
Do what my ex wife did, she went to local restaurants and asked them if she could put them around their restaurant so people could see them and possibly buy them and she would give them 10 percent of whatever she sold them for and she also left her cards with the restaurant. She did OK with it also.
4 :
Getting your name out there any way you can is the most important thing you can do! Get on etsy.com and promote yourself through the forums and by meeting other members. Start a blog that features your work; it's a great way to begin building a website for free. Look for open calls for art shows, send your work out to galleries, and try to develop relationships with restaurants, coffee shops, dr offices, and other places that might be willing to display your work. Being an artist is extremely difficult and very few people are able to support themselves this way. If you love making work, then any sales are just the icing on the cake. It takes a ton of work and a long time to build an art career and there is no one magic bullet that will help you sell your work. Try out different forums and see what works best, then funnel most of your efforts in that direction. Good luck! Rose http://www.rosebriccetti.com http://effartblog.blogspot.com
5 :
Selling directly to a client/collector is the best way for an artist to make money because there is no "middle man," or consignment gallery who takes a percentage of your earnings. When selling direct, you earn 100% of the profits. Several ways for an individual artist to sell paintings directly are from home or studio, outdoor festivals & community events, tourist office, doctors waiting room, local non-chain coffee shops, and from your own artist/business website. Going it alone is not the only option when selling, you can also join up with other artists who share your style and beliefs and form an art collective together. When joining or forming a collective, the artists of the group equally split rent on a single store front, making it cheaper for each artist to market their paintings directly. It is like how musical artists join in a band for the benefit of each other. Harmony is important and it can be achieved by having artists who work in different mediums, like sculpture, painting, textiles, but all in the same style of art/music. If you exhibit your artwork in a public art gallery, sometimes they will let you sell directly from the gallery. You can also have group exhibitions at a public art gallery, which can work like a collective. Including additional items to an original painting can also help you sell. A statement or short bio, material list for art conservators, a photo of you with the artwork and where else it has been displayed, are all items you can include with a painting to add value and influence people to buy. People usually buy art sporadically and on the spot. They want to have it hanging in there home the minute they come home, so its often a good idea to have your painting ready to hang with hardware installed and included when selling it. If you use high quality materials and paints, it is good to advertise that you do. If you are serious about building a professional art career, I highly suggest that you avoid E-bay. It will devalue your artwork and respect because it has a reputation as being a graveyard/flee market of art. Aim for local juried art shows. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tips on pricing... Most successful artists keep a steady price by measuring the square inches of the painting and times that by a determined price/profit based on detail. For example: .40 cents per square inch for less detailed paintings .50 cents per square inch for medium detail .60 cents per square inch for high detail A 16" x 20" of high detail = 320square inches x 0.60cents = $192.00 This formula can help you keep a steady price when it comes to different sizes. As a general rule, commissioned artwork is twice as much.

Who is the real person making the money with Global Warming?

Who is the real person making the money with Global Warming?
We all know that Al Gore is making money off of Global Warming however there is one more person hiding in China making far more money. Maybe he wants to take over his own government.

Eventually many people will make money from new industries that rise to replace old ones, just as has happened throughout history. For those who think money is behind this issue, why don't you ever look at the budgets of science researchers and compare those to the budgets of the world's most profitable corporations --- the oil companies? This is SUCH an irrational argument... Exxon would gladly pump millions into the coffers of any scientist who could prove that humans aren't causing climate change. Instead, they have to settle for paying lobbyists and funding their campaign to manufacture doubt.
2 :
I don't think that Al Gore's millions compare to the tens of billions that the oil industry reaps. Why are you not interested in where the funding for the denial machine comes from? _
3 :
The petroleum industry. It has mobilized the greatest number of scientifically illiterate numb-skulls in modern history to attack a specific area of scientific research. Money is a-political - and stupid is to the bone. The greatest hoax in human history has been the convincing of people that global warming is a hoax.
4 :
There is a rich person in China, therefore AGW is a scam. Denier logic never ceases to impress.
5 :
Many people are making money, not just Al Gore. Cap and Trade will become a huge industry. The Wall Street Bankers and Traders will make huge fortunes off of Cap and Trade. This will be another Enron for them where they made Billions in Commissions and fees, while the Enron scammers went to jail. With the Global Warming scam, the scammers probably will not even go to jail However the money that they Global Warming Scammers make will come directly out of all of our pockets and the rest of us will be much poorer.
6 :
Investment banks and traders and big oil and energy companies. They already makes hundreds of millions a year in selling carbon credits. Also, companies selling carbon offsets - these are largely fraudulent as this article from the Financial Times shows: http://blogs.ft.com/energy-source/2009/09/14/will-carbon-credit-scandals-soon-be-behind-us/ Also, this article from Reuters which quotes Interpol as saying that 90% of carbon offset trading is probably fraudulent: http://in.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idINIndia-44618420091210 There are literally billions to be made from carbon credits and offsets - why do you think all the big oil companies are in favour of it? Public spiritedness? Or are they all members of Friends of the Earth now?

Or any politician who will be collecting some real good change by forcing you to pay taxes to them? Or how about the IPCC, which would cease to exist if AGW were not true. Or how about all hte scientist (who now think they are rock stars? The list is endless. But the real travesty is where they are getting the money. Not by advancing the economy by producing new ionnovative products. They will get the money by taxing you, or lying to you.

You may recognise this guy Rajendra Pachauri, the UN's leading climate guru and Chief man made global warming alarmist, he is found to be personally involved in a great many organisations which stand to profit from the IPCC's recommendations No one in the world exercised more influence on the events leading up to the Copenhagen conference on global warming than Dr Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and mastermind of its latest report in 2007. Although Dr Pachauri is often presented as a scientist (he was even once described by the BBC as “the world’s top climate scientist”), as a former railway engineer with a PhD in economics he has no qualifications in climate science at all. What has also almost entirely escaped attention, however, is how Dr Pachauri has established an astonishing worldwide portfolio of business interests with bodies which have been investing billions of dollars in organisations dependent on the IPCC’s policy recommendations. These outfits include banks, oil and energy companies and investment funds heavily involved in ‘carbon trading’ and ‘sustainable technologies’, which together make up the fastest-growing commodity market in the world, estimated soon to be worth trillions of dollars a year. How will the Three Gorges Dam make money?

How will the Three Gorges Dam make money?
I heard about the Three Gorges Dam in China being built on the Yangtze river, and people are saying that it will cost up to 100 billion dollard- but that it will pay for itself in the long run. How will this dam make that much money?

1 :
Hydroelectricity, I'm guessing. That's what made the Hoover Dam such a great feat of engineering, for sure.
2 :
The main economic benefit is certainly hydo-electric power generation. It has an installed capacity of 22.5GW from its 30 main generators, and is already generating an average of 100TWh of electricity per year. At that rate it will pay for itself in about 10 years or 1000TWh generated. Thats assuming the dam doesn't burst first and create possibly the greatest ever man-made disaster. The dam is some 185m high, holding back a reservoir lake some 600km long. Ironically, another intended main economic benefit of the dam is flood protection along the Yangtze River. If it fails, it could cause the worst flood ever, making the 1954 flood seem like a trickle. Other possible benefits are increased shipping capacity along the river, also relying on a ship lift still being built, improved irrigation systems (!) and income from tourism as a new "wonder of the world".

Would an engineer make more money in their own country (USA) or in a country like China/Brazil?

USA Salaries are higher, and companies and governments can afford to pay professionals more
2 :
It is really based on supply and demand. If a country needs an engineer of a certain type, say civil, then the demand will translate into a higher salary. If the U.S. has a surplus of civil engineers, the salary will be low. However, there is a greater potential to make a lot of money in the U. S. But like everything else, it depends on the engineers qualifications and work history.

When can the people rightfully replace a government even forcibly?

When can the people rightfully replace a government even forcibly?
Governments existed long ago ruled by kings and supported by religion as the kings supposedly got their right to rule from GOD. That was the old view of things. Then came a notion called democracy...which first really came about in a serious and large way with the american revolution...it was the notion that human beings had certain inalienable rights..it was the notion that the country belonged to the people....that while a government ruled, it was only with the permission of the people as the govt itself existed to serve the people. The USA is a Republic which is a representative democracy, which means that the people have elected representatives that serve them and are supposed to run govt in a way that represents the will of the people. With democracy, govt exists only by permission of the people and that govt can be removed by the people when the people feel that it no longer represents them. In a small way, this is theoretically why we have elections, in a large way, it could mean revolution. The problem is that elections may be insignificant because the playing field and rules allow the minority to control who gets elected or influence the people's choices as to who to choose. So for example, if two candidates are running for President and each of them had to raise $100 million dollars to be able to run, you can see how money and those with money to donate to those campaigns influence the process. When elected offficials have to run for office again in 4 years or some years down the line, they use a good deal of their time in office and policy making opportunities to make sure they please those who will give them money to run for office again. This becomes at best a weakened version of democracy, and weakened version where even though the people vote, their choices are limited to people with lots of money to run for office..people who for obvious reasons have been given lots of money by people or corporations who want certain policies and are willing to pay heavily to get them. This is not democracy. This is not government serving or representing the people. This is what we have going on now in the USA. Using current events as an example, you will notice that the great majority of americans oppose illegal immigration and support the Arizona law, but yet our president opposes the great majority, that the great majority of americans were dissatisfied with health care reform and despise the mandate that everyone has to buy expensive health care insurance at extortion like prices from insurance companies, yet our President opposes the great majority, that the great majority of americans think outsourcing of jobs to China and other countries is a bad thing for citizens and the country, most americans oppose the building of the mosque near ground zero, yet our president gladly stands up and says that the mosque must be built....etc. You can see many examples where our leaders when making policy actually quite often make policy that the people had then voted on that policy would actually have voted overwhelmingly the opposite way. In theory the govt of the USA is supposed to serve the people...which means the will of the majority while respecting and preserving the rights of the minority against tyranny. But in fact, in reality, we see that this is not the case. So the question becomes, if we have elections and change does not occur and we keep getting more and more unrepresentative govt, do the people have a right to remove the governmental system in a big way and make a big revolution like change? Yes they do, because the country belongs to the people. Sadly though, the likelihood of pro the people change happening from within the system is very small as the very people who have the power to pass the laws and make the pro the people policies are the very corrupt politicians who are bought off by big money. Its even less likely that revolution can occur for the people to take back their country since the govt has so many advantages such as a vast modern military with all sorts of weapons that the people do not have....all sorts of money that the people do not have and all sorts of ability to spy on the people and monitor their activities. This is what we have come to in the USA...we no longer are that shining beacon of democracy, but rather are the shining example of plutocratic corporacracy...which is a form of tyranny, and the bad news is that the trend is that its getting worse with each year that goes by as the plutocrats gather more and more riches and get stronger and stronger while the vast majority of citizens are falling further and further behind and getting poorer and poorer.

I didn't read all that. Fact of the matter is, the U.S. Government is not doing anything so severe to where they need to be overthrown. We have a President for only 4 to 8 years. Then they must step down. This isn't a dictatorship. So what will we have if we overthrow them? The same exact people, and the same exact system. We will still hold elections, so things would still turn out the same.
2 :
I'm not reading all of that. A short answer is any time we want. We all have a duty to protect our freedom from ALL enemies, both foreign & DOMESTIC. Any government that is taking jabs at our essential liberties is in violation, and warrant removal. The problem is the school system, and media have convinced most Americans, that they no longer need to place any value on freedom. For the sake of "political correctness" we give up our rights. For the sake of safety, we give up freedom. The media has trained so many Americans to place their greatest value on multiculturalism. I can do this all day. Simply put, the Government has been a crossed the line for quite some time. It is up to the people to wake up, and push back.
3 :
I have too much of a life to read all that. Reading the Declaration of Independence is a good place to start finding your question's answer. When the government becomes treasonous to its people and ignores the petitions of the vast majority, and ceases to represent the people the way the people want to be represented, then a revolution is justified and required. We already see some of that today - the government ignored the majority's wills when they passed the health care bill, they promised to get us out of war, but they haven't yet - so they are essentially killing their own people over nothing, and the politicians in congress claim to represent as they pass bills behind closed doors. If they continue this for another 6 years(give or take a few, let obama and the other idiots of the government leave office,...), then a revolution must happen.
4 :
I don't have time to read that much in a question. But I think you're referring to our government being in the back pockets of the plutocrats, rather than being there for us, the constituents. Remember, we outnumber the plutocrats and should therefore use our numbers and sheer size while overseeing our government and politicians. But you're right: we are living under the tyranny of the wealthy these days.
5 :
When all other rights have failed — where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees.
6 :
We do have representative democracy, whoever makes the biggest contributions to politicians gets favorable legislation passed. You can join the Tea Party and overthrow the government if you dont like the health insurance mandate.

Why does the United States have to keep up trade with China?

Why does the United States have to keep up trade with China?
So we can't make China mad, because our money that we spend comes from the bank of china credit card. How are they helping us pay off our debt? Also, the china military is getting to become very powerful, so it seems like an economic necessity to keep trading with them. There is a mutually assured dependency, meaning they need us to buy their goods to be wealthy, and we know they will not bomb their biggest customer. i need details to back this point up. there is also the humanitarian aspect. to be able to help improve their human rights violations, we need to have a good connection with them. how have we already helped them improve? what are the positive benefits to the united states economy?

The way they help us pay for our debt is that the Chinese government buys a large number of US Treasury. When the government doesn't have enough money to pay for the budget it has three choices. 1. Raise taxes, which are unpopular with people, especially in an election year. 2. Print more money, but the congress doesn't have the power too. The Federal Reserve is actually in charge of that and they don't print more money to help pay for a budget deficit because it would lead to hyperinflation They are also independent from congress . 3. Borrow from the public by issuing bonds. They issue bonds by the US Treasury. Anybody can buy them, for example US citizens, companies, the Federal Reserve, or foreign government like China. When they purchase our bonds they are helping us finance our deficit. They give us money and we give them IOUs. But in recent months the Chinese government has started to purchase other government bonds in order to diversify there holdings, decreasing the number of US Treasury bonds they are buying.
2 :
The US keeps trading with the Chinese because we are hooked on CHEAP imported items. Unfortunately our greed and consumerism made this situation happen! If we had been willing to pay for items that allowed for our own to survive, we would be a stronger nation.
3 :
There was a government decision, made in the 60's i believe, to engage China economically because that would facilitate their move to limited capitalism, and would entwine their economic interests with ours. The alternate course would have been to eventually go to war with them.

Why do Americans have such a twisted, manipulated view of Socialism?

Why do Americans have such a twisted, manipulated view of Socialism?
I asked the question why Socialist countries are surveyed as the happiest in the world, and I got this response: "So you admit Obama is a Socialist and violating is Oath of office by changing the country? Anyhow, Denmark along with the Netherlands are a Democracy, and Constitutional Monarchy! Here is a CURRENT list of socialist countries and I'm sure they would argue with your uneducated question/statement. The People's Republic of China Cuba North Korea...you can't tell me those people are happy! Vietnam" Okay, This is what I find extremely strange? Because those countries are Communist. I live in Australia, which elected the Australian Labor Party which has it's official ideology is Democratic Socialism. Norway is under the Norwegian Labor Party which also has it's official ideology as Socialism. (It's also the second wealthiest country in the world, after Luxembourg) Spain, Norway, Denmark, The Netherlands, Italy, South Africa, Japan, Luxembourg are also under Socialist governments. Along with dozens of other Socialist governments. Communism and Socialism are related, But Communism is an extreme ideology that I don't approve of, and I don't think works at all. But whenever an American thinks of the world socialism, they think of some tyrannical authoratian rule? You can do whatever you want in Australia, you just have to pay higher taxes. I come from a middle/upper-class family, and I very much enjoy my life, I don't directly benefit from Socialism. (except from having better schools, hospitals, roads, healthcare, less income inequality, less poverty and less homeless people) I just believe it's ridiculous that people can make $45,000,000 a year sitting behind a desk in some corporation. Whilst some people don't even have a bed to sleep in. And im not saying people shouldnt be allowed to make $45,000,000. They should just be taxed far higher and that money should be distributed to those who have none. And Socialism doesnt make people lazy, Australias unemployment rate is half that of the USA. So you can't say Socialism makes people lazy and leech off welfare, it just helps close the gap between the extremely wealthy and the extremely poor. And, since almost every country is socialist now. There are very poor socialist countries (Venuzuela), and the two richest countries in the world are also socialist (Norway, Luxembourg). So I dont think it has much to do with overall wealth, more so of just how that wealth is distributed within that society. _____________________ The United States has one of the widest rich-poor gaps of any high-income nation today, and that gap continues to grow. In recent times, some prominent economists including Alan Greenspan have warned that the widening rich-poor gap in the U.S. population is a problem that could undermine and destabilize the country's economy and standard of living stating that "The income gap between the rich and the rest of the US population has become so wide, and is growing so fast, that it might eventually threaten the stability of democratic capitalism itself". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_of_living_in_the_United_States

Why do you care? Stop trying to change politics here. We are too smart for you. If you want to run Australia into the ground then by all means GO AT IT! But leave us Americans alone. Many Americans have come from socialist countries and know what it's like. How the hell do you accurately measure "happiness" anyways? Sounds like a load of Bullsh!t.

You wrote: "And im not saying people shouldnt be allowed to make $45,000,000. They should just be taxed far higher and that money should be distributed to those who have none." No they f*cking shouldn't be taxed at a higher rate. No money should be [re]distributed.

The way I see it, socialism should be like religion. You're either socialist or you don't want to be. Most Americans don't want to be. Most Australians do. I don't see any problems.

boy oh boy oh boy oh boy... YOU'RE gunna end up with more people who hate you than I have people who hate me ... for having an Aussie Opinion on Anything American... BUT ... It's ok .. I am sure you've come across enough US citizens who are more knowledgeable ... some DO know the difference.. some will agree with you .. BUT there's gunna be a hell of a lot that will take offense Good Luck :)

Americans do not actually understand that what we label as the left is actually in the center of the world political view.

Go you for being informative. Thanks for all the facts :) Bad capitalist examples exist. Does anyone remember ZAIRE?

Leftover fears from the Cold War. Anything socialist or communist was the enemy and needed to be destroyed. That's why Americans never held their government responsible for the atrocities they funded and committed in South America under Reagan.

Daniel, you are a fool. I think it covers it all after hussein's closest adviser al sharp-thong statement that "Americans have overwhelmingly voted for socialism", and after Demon-c-RAT John Dingle stated the next urgent goal of his fuhrer's administration - "TO CONTROL PEOPLE". May dear Lord give you, hussein soturo and his goons ALL they and YOU so richly deserve...

it goes back to the 1920's when propaganda caused people to hate "reds" by the way, there are no existing communist countries in the world, NKorea, China, and Cuba are Socialist Republics, with communist parties in power

Because we are suppose to be free to do what we want as long as we don't hurt a person while doing it. I am a Libertarian. I oppose socialism because there is no freedom in it. Plus it is bankrupting Greece. http://www.lp.org/

Socialism ends up wasting money, its starting to crush Europe even Spain is in trouble

Simply because the following people were strong, passionate supporter of socialism (just like the president and his gang) Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, Sadam Hussein, Karl Marx...should I go on?

While I certainly agree with most of your claims. I am not a wide socialist in that view. I don't like the wealthy upper classes being in command while the poorer classes suffer. But I don't like the government in all our private lives and that tends to happen in Socialism. Also I don't believe in giving money to people who are poor simply because they refuse to work. If someone say has been laid off and is actively seeking work then sure he can file for monetary help. But some socialist theology is everyone get wealthy and do no work. I firmly believe in work for what you get and have a strong work ethic while enjoying freedom from big government. Again many Socialist theology I agree with, I just don't believe in government everyone and giving out money to everyone even if they don't work for anything.

Socialism is an economic and/or social system. Communism/Democracy/Monarchy/Republic/etc. is a governmental system. Most of Europe is Socialist-Capitalist. Their economic drivers are Capitalist. Their Social systems are Socialist. The US is a Capitalist society with a Constitutional Republic as a government system. Different countries have different ways of doing things. Trying to compare a country like the US with say, France is ridiculous. The sheer difference in population diversity in the US, combined with the numbers of citizens is so vastly different. Not to mention the massive amounts of money we spend on things like defense that many of those other countries just don't have to. Tell me, what's Norway's Army been doing lately? Or Luxembourg's? Trying to compare the US with any other country is impossible. The best way to compare it would be to say, take all of Europe and add in North Africa and half of the Middle East. And then come up with a system of functioning. GO!

Well you've got to remember that the American public at large is rather ignorant, in the 50's and the 60's we had "better red then dead" slogans and we've been bred to see things in a certain way, unfortunately with the Red-neck right wing the minute you talk about "sharing" or "spreading the wealth" to help less fortunate of course! They will scrounge what they can from there voter base and attempt to stop anything that would help people in bad economic situations, and sadly enough its all older white men, but i digress, back to socialism, the system itself for socialism is quite effective if you look at other social countries such as you've noted, unfortunately most americans fail to see this and will cling to older beliefs in an attempt to stop any form of change, also i might add that people from the european (and in your case based from Britain) countries you've got more a lean toward what we americans would refer to as "liberal" and the "left" even the most "Conservative" from Britain and australia would be either leaning left or "liberal" in the US, we have this foolish voter base of ignorant Christians and Red-necks who want things to stay the way they are even when they are inherently broken! One thing id love to mention i show the right wing spouts "SOCIALISM!!!! OMG!!!" like its a plague or something, Obama is in-fact somewhat close to socialistic in ideology, but this IS NOT a bad thing!!!! most people just don't get it, as long as the government is regulated to within certain rights and taxes are a bit higher, does that truly matter if your supplied with health care? and people being helped by the government to have better lives? I understand the fears of "1984" which have been brought up in many circumstances, but this does not make it true, most the things we hear about in america when the media refers to countries with "socialized medicine" is bullshit that the Right wing happens to push.

Why do socialists demand access to everything and accept responsibility for nothing? You say that you are from a relatively wealthy stratum of society. Your words would be more impressive if you'd been born in a ghetto and become a successful professional. You are what people call a "champagne socialist." Tony Blair and Anthony Wedgwood Benn of the British Labour Party were too. If one has no fear of losing ones own security, one can afford to be magnanimous toward "the poor." Working people, who suffer from taxation, are acutely aware of neighbours who live off the dole. That is why conservatism is by no means limited to the upper classes, and that is why Margaret Thatcher was so successful. Lastly, socialism is closely identified with trade unionism - an institution that long ago had validity but today is no more than legalized extortion. In reality, Unions are corporations in the advocacy business and whatever gains they make for their members, they always make greater gains for themselves. Other than that, I think socialism is just peachy.

Socialism and its nastier sister Communism have never been successful anywhere. ONLY a Market based Economy-capitalism(where there's incentive to develop and take risks...) with limited government intervention such as the USA have been successful. The USA, contrary popular belief is NOT a Democracy, but is in fact a Constitutional Republic. Let's get back to the Constitution specifically, the 10th Amendment on clarity on how Obama and botox woman overstepped the amendment and created Tyranny of The Majority.

Hard facts about the EU vs USA http://www.timbro.se/bokhandel/pdf/9175665646.pdf The Sweden Myth http://mises.org/daily/2259 Those are the facts. “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.” Winston Churchill

As some others have pointed out, the USA has been a capitalist hegemony since the early 90's, and ceaseless anti-socialist propaganda has removed almost all traces of political openness from the public opinion. Your average american believes that capitalism is the only pure form of government economy, and associates socialism with communism and fascism.

The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money. -- Margaret Thatcher It would be nice if you linked to your study, b/c its diff to know where your data comes from. But here is one study that says happiness is based upon, "Family, social and community networks that bring joy to one's life." (According to 2005 editorial, in the British Medical Journal authored by Dr. Tony Delamothe). http://www.forbes.com/2009/05/05/world-happiest-places-lifestyle-travel-world-happiest.html The other thing that makes this study suspect is that it was done by the UN. But in the US, there are about 1.2 million births every year to unwed mothers. That is a hard life, and I would like to know what it is in other countries. But I don't think the mothers of the 1.2 million per year would be really happy after a year of so.http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ofa/data-reports/congress/tanft51.htm So you can see there has been a breakdown in the family unit (due to liberal policies, like welfare, etc.). The gov encourages childbirth by paying for it. Perhaps those are the unhappy people? Also, with US unemployment over 10%, lots of unhappy people there too. As for socialism, the basic issue is who do you want in charge of your life, you or the government. "It is man versus the state, or: individual rights versus totalitarian government -- which means: capitalism versus socialism." Ayn Rand The Founders of the US & authors of the Constitution, feared centralized government because it takes the power away from the states, and once gone, is just about impossible to get back. George Washington said "Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force; like fire, a troublesome servant and a fearful master." That is a view many people share, and we are experiencing the truth of it today. Barry and the democrat party are governing by force. The majority of the people did not want the health-care bill, but they got it. We got central planning, and had a totalitarian solution. Socialism, at work from the US Congress. (There will be hell to pay this Nov when we have elections for congress.) "[T]he States can best govern our home concerns and the general government our foreign ones. I wish, therefore...never to see all offices transferred to Washington, where, further withdrawn from the eyes of the people, they may more secretly be bought and sold at market." -- Thomas Jefferson, author of Declaration of Independence, our founding document. If you are happy that is good. We should all be free to choose how we live, and the maximum amount of freedom to do that is capitalism.

One of your own -- Rupert bloody Murdoch -- has about 99% to do with this. There's a lot of right wing lies and propaganda passing for news. People are deliberately misinformed.

The answer is simple. The political right in America needs to ADMIT there is a problem with wealth distribution in America. Like a drug addict or an alcoholic, they need to ADMIT that the market, when left alone, does EXACTLY what Karl Marx said it would. It creates monopoly power in just a few. Once admitted, the solution needs to be something other than social transfer payments. They need to influence the market to distribute fairly. One way would be to give tax incentives to companies to pay DOMESTIC employees more, and stop OUTSOURCING. There are other ways. But will our democracy ever get this right? Friends, after what we've seen over the last decade, I think the answer is clear. No way.
